Hi, I'm Shelley
Physical Therapy + Performance
MPT, CERP, C-PS
I’m a physical therapist, rider, and competitor. My company, Intrepid Wellness, focuses on helping horses and riders move and perform better, and helping riders learn to listen to their horses. I specialize in working with event, dressage, and hunter-jumper horses and riders. Those sports are my passion, and I can help those horses and riders best because I understand their performance needs. I’m secretly obsessed with cutting horses, so that might be what I do when I decide I’m too old to gallop and jump.
I'd love to help you understand how your horse moves and what you can do to help him stay sound and healthy. Equestrian sports are incredibly special and create a strong bond between horse and rider, but they do put a lot of stress and strain on horses. Unfortunately, injuries happen even with the best program. I'm excited to help you understand how to best rehab your horse. I know you want what's best for your horse. You can use this information to help them recover from an injury, but it's also helpful to prevent injuries. I look forward to meeting you!
To the horses!
- Shelley
Webinar Summer SCHEDULE
Webinars will all be recorded so you can listen later.
Rehab Principles & Motor Control
Motor Control is a fancy way of saying how your horse activates muscles to both move their body & stabilize themselves so that they can perform well.
When injuries occur, there is a significant amount of muscle inhibition and decreased strength; this is due to the neurological system being down regulated, and in return, muscles don't fire correctly.
This webinar will be help you understand how to activate muscles to improve motor control and return your horse to work safely.

Kissing Spine Disease
Many horses are being diagnosed with Kissing Spine, which refers to a condition where two or more of the spinous processes are positioned so that they touch or rub against each other.
There are several treatment options to help manage kissing spines. This webinar will review the importance of core strength and posture in managing this disease.
Tendon & Ligament Injuries
Tendon and ligament injuries can occur for lots of reasons. Often, they are caused by chronic overuse or too much repetition. Rehabilitating your horse is complex. It involves analyzing movement and figuring out what created the compensation in the first place, then placing progressive overload on the tissue to get it strong and dynamic again.
This webinar focuses on the phases of tissue healing and what milestones to set for your horse. It will also cover how to advance your exercise program appropriately.
